Menu Calculate Back

Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 3, 2026 · Menu Calculate is operated by lweb.ch, Switzerland ("we", "us").

1. Overview

Menu Calculate helps restaurants calculate the cost, food cost and profit of their dishes. We designed the app to work without an account and to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what little data leaves your device and why.

2. Your data stays on your device

Your dishes, ingredients, prices, sales figures and settings are stored locally on your device only. There is no account and no user database: we never ask for your name, your email or the name of your restaurant, and we have no way of knowing who you are.

By default we hold no copy of your dishes on our side. We cannot see, access, sync or restore them. The one exception is content you deliberately choose to share, described in section 2b — nothing is ever shared unless you switch it on yourself.

Because your dishes are not stored on a server, moving them to another device is done entirely by you: you export a backup file from the app and import it on the other device. Deleting the app deletes all of this data.

2b. Sharing a dish anonymously (Discover)

The app has an optional feature, Discover, that shows the latest dishes costed by other people in your country. It is off by default: a dish is only shared if you turn on the switch when you save it.

When you do share a dish, this is all that is sent and stored on our server:

  • the name of the dish;
  • its selling price and currency — the price already printed on your menu;
  • the names and quantities of its ingredients;
  • your country (nothing more precise — never your city, region or location);
  • its food cost percentage, from which the app also shows what the dish costs to make. Both figures appear on the shared dish and feed the anonymous country averages. They describe the dish, not you: with no name, no business and no city attached, a margin cannot be traced back to anyone.

What is never sent: the individual purchase price of each ingredient (what you pay your suppliers, negotiated deal by deal), your sales figures, your photos, your city, and anything at all that could identify you or your business. There is no account, no email, no name and no persistent device identifier attached to a shared dish. Other users see the dish and the country flag — nothing else.

Removing what you shared. When you share a dish, your phone stores a random deletion key for it. "Delete my shared dishes", in the app's options, uses those keys to remove them from the feed. This key exists only on your device: it is what lets you delete your own content without us ever knowing whose it is. If you delete the app, the keys go with it and those dishes can no longer be withdrawn by you — that is the trade-off of a genuinely anonymous system. You can always contact us at info@lweb.ch.

Moderation. Dish names are checked automatically before publication, and every shared dish can be reported from the app. Reported content is withdrawn from the feed automatically and reviewed. To limit abuse we store a one-way hash of the IP address a submission came from, never the address itself; it is erased after 30 days and is used for nothing else.

3. What leaves your device, and why

Almost everything stays on your device. Besides a dish you choose to share (section 2b), only these three things are sent off it — and only to make a feature you actively use work, never for advertising or tracking:

  • Receipt photos and dish names — when you scan a receipt, or ask the bot to break down a dish, the photo (or the dish name, plus your country/city, currency and language) is sent to our service and an AI provider (OpenAI) only to read the products and prices. Used solely to generate that result.
  • A device identifier — used by Apple and RevenueCat to manage your subscription. Anonymous and not linked to your identity.
  • Your voice — if you dictate, your speech is handled by Apple's speech recognition on your device's operating system. We never receive or store audio.

4. Voice input

If you use dictation, your speech is processed by Apple's speech recognition service on the terms of your device's operating system. We do not store audio recordings.

5. AI features (dish breakdown & receipt scanning)

When you ask the bot to break down a dish, the dish name, your approximate location (country/city, as set by you in Settings), currency and language are sent to our server and forwarded to an AI provider (OpenAI) to generate the ingredient list and price estimates. When you scan a receipt, the photo you choose is sent the same way to extract product names and prices. These requests are processed transiently to generate the answer and are not used to build a profile of you. Do not include personal data in dish names or photos.

6. Subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription infrastructure provider, using an anonymous identifier. We never see your payment details. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.

7. What we do NOT do

No sale of data, no cross-app tracking, no marketing emails. We do not collect names, email addresses or contact lists. The app itself carries no advertising or ad trackers — see section 11 for the only place we use advertising cookies: this website.

8. Legal basis & international transfers

We process the data described above to provide the features you actively request (performance of contract). Sharing a dish in Discover (section 2b) rests instead on your consent, given by switching it on; you can withdraw it at any time by switching it off and deleting your shared dishes, with no effect on the rest of the app. The abuse-prevention hash described in section 2b rests on our legitimate interest in keeping the feed usable.

AI processing may take place on servers outside Switzerland/the EEA; we keep the data sent to the minimum needed for the feature to work.

9. Your rights

Since your data lives on your device, you are in control: edit or delete anything in the app, or delete the app to remove everything. Anything you shared in Discover can be withdrawn with "Delete my shared dishes" in the app's options (see section 2b). For questions or requests under applicable data protection law (including the Swiss FADP and GDPR), contact us at info@lweb.ch.

10. Children

Menu Calculate is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.

11. This website

This website (menu-calculate.com) always stores your language preference in your browser's local storage. With your consent, given through the cookie banner, we also load the Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram) to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns and to build advertising audiences. The Meta Pixel is only loaded after you click "Accept" in the banner; if you click "Reject" or take no action, it is never loaded. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site. See Meta's data policy at facebook.com/privacy/policy.

12. Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version will always be available at this address, with the effective date above.
